Impact of BrexitTen Years On
That this Assembly acknowledges that 23 June 2026 marks ten years since the Brexit referendum; notes that the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020 was enacted, despite 56 per cent of voters in this jurisdiction having voted to remain in the EU; further acknowledges that Brexit has been an economic disaster and has resulted in the British economy experiencing lower GDP per capita, lower levels of employment and lower productivity than it would have had if it had of remained in the EU; recognises that the Windsor Framework and dual market access has mitigated against the worst excesses of Brexit; further notes that it voted to agree that Articles 5 to 10 of the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland to the EU withdrawal agreement should continue to apply; accepts that consistent polling has shown that a majority of people in this jurisdiction support re-joining the EU as a permanent solution; and reaffirms its rejection of Brexit, endorsement of the interim Protocol arrangements through the Windsor Framework and the desire to re-enter the EU and attain full EU membership.
