Standing up to Racism

Standing up to Racism
That this Assembly condemns violence in all its forms, including the appalling attack in North Belfast on Stephen Ogilvie on 8 June; expresses deep concern at the recent racially motivated violence across Northern Ireland; affirms that such actions cannot be justified as legitimate democratic expression; stands in solidarity with all those individuals, families and communities directly affected by this violence and disorder; further condemns the role of online misinformation and use of social media platforms to shut down large parts of everyday life in Northern Ireland and demands further action from the UK Government to regulate these platforms; believes that the Executive must adopt a joined-up and coordinated approach to tackling racism, hate crime and community division; and calls on the First Minister and deputy First Minister to outline the actions they will take in the immediate, medium and long term to address racism, improve community cohesion and ensure that everyone who calls Northern Ireland home can live free from fear, intimidation and discrimination.
