Raising Awareness of Multiple Myeloma

Raising Awareness of Multiple Myeloma
That this Assembly notes that multiple myeloma is an incurable blood cancer, which has an intensive impact on over 170 people diagnosed here each year as well as approximately 1,000 people currently living with the condition who require multiple chemotherapy treatments over several years; expresses concern at the low levels of public and clinical awareness; acknowledges that this often leads to repeated GP presentations with a high proportion of diagnoses being made through Emergency Departments; and calls on the Minister of Health to take steps to increase awareness of multiple myeloma symptoms among both the public and GPs, improve early diagnostic pathways and ensure timely and equitable access to clinical trials.
