Motion TextThat this Assembly recognises the severe and growing pressure that rising fuel and energy costs are placing on household finances across Northern Ireland; notes that these pressures come on top of persistently high living costs, leaving many households facing increasingly difficult choices; further notes the publication of Budget 2027 in the Republic of Ireland, which has brought forward a package of measures aimed at easing cost of living pressures and supporting households; expresses concern that the Executive has failed to agree a budget to provide families with certainty about the support available to them; and calls on the Executive to bring forward a package of measures aimed at alleviating the cost of living crisis as part of an agreed Executive budget.

15/10/2026	Leave out all after ‘supporting households;’ and insert: ‘further recognises that the Executive does not have many of the fiscal powers held by other devolved regions or governments and that greater fiscal powers should be devolved to the Executive; recognises that the British Government should make meaningful interventions to support people during the cost of living crisis such as, reducing VAT on home heating oil and fuel, cutting Insurance Premium Tax, increasing windfall taxes on energy companies making huge profits, and reinvesting those resources into public services; expresses support for multi-year budgeting; and further expresses support for the Executive in its negotiations to secure a fair funding package and to agree a Budget settlement that enables public services to be properly funded and to further support workers, families and communities.’
