‘societal and economic impact of the pandemic and resulting restrictions, exacerbating and highlighting already existing inequalities; stresses the need to meet any related increase in eligibility for, or uptake of, social security and other forms of financial support for those made redundant or suffering ill-health, as part of the recovery from Covid-19; expresses grave concern that the review of welfare mitigations measures provided for in New Decade, New Approach has not been taken forward as a priority by the Department for Communities; and calls on the Minister for Communities to accelerate the review and to introduce the necessary legislation for welfare mitigations to ensure that social security support is made available to households that need it.’

‘such as Discretionary Support for those who are in hardship as a result of redundancy or ill health related to Covid-19 and are without the resources to meet their basic requirements; notes with concern the very limited financial support provided to those on a low income who have to self-isolate which is having a detrimental impact on reducing community transmission of Covid-19; expresses grave concern that the review of the welfare mitigation measures provided for in New Decade, New Approach has not been taken forward as a priority by the Department for Communities; and calls on the Minister for Communities to accelerate that review ensuring appropriate financial support from the social security system and independent advice and representation is made available to households hardest hit by the effects of the pandemic as the Executive charts a course towards recovery.’
