‘access for medicines and medical devices; notes that previously most of the medicines used on the island of Ireland were supplied through Britain; further notes that the British Government and the EU Commission agreed an approach on a phased process for implementing medicines regulation to allow the pharmaceutical industry 12 months to adapt and that significant realignment of supply chains has been happening over this period; recalls that the barriers to trade in this area are yet another consequence of Brexit; highlights that Brexit has also resulted in added cost for businesses and public services; regrets that some firms have already experienced market disruption due to Brexit; expresses our expectation that existing grace periods will allow workable solutions, consistent with the necessary mitigations provided by the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland, to be found; and calls on the Minister of Health to continue to develop plans and guidance with the pharmaceutical industry and the wider supply chain to ensure medicines are supplied into Northern Ireland.’

‘access for medicines and medical devices; notes that the majority were previously supplied via Great Britain; further notes that barriers to trade in this area are yet another damaging result of the hard Brexit pursued by the British Government; expresses concern that patient care, particularly in border areas, may also be impacted by the restrictions that Brexit has placed on medical practitioners to freely operate across the border; further recognises the outstanding issues with east-west and north-south trade across a range of sectors; notes the need for the British Government and the European Union to continue to work together to find pragmatic solutions to problems associated with Brexit, including in relation to east-west trade under the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland; notes that the Protocol, while imperfect, offers clear potential advantage to the Northern Ireland economy; calls on the Minister for the Economy to maximise potential economic opportunities; and further calls on the First Minister and deputy First Minister, the Minister for the Economy and the Minister of Health to work with Executive colleagues, the British Government and the European Union to collaboratively seek resolution to all outstanding areas of east-west and north-south disruption, including in relation to medicines and medical devices.’

‘recalls that barriers to the flow of goods are a consequence of Brexit; welcomes the current grace periods regarding medicines but expresses concern that they are due to end without longer-term sustainable solutions to secure the full and necessary supply of medicines and medical devices; and calls on the Minister of Health to work with the UK Government on finding a more suitable accommodation with the European Union that is consistent with mutual obligations under the Withdrawal Agreement and Trade and Co-operation Agreement.’
